Mistheart's smile faded into a neutral slit. Her eyes closed again, listening to the tale Windmist told of her as a kit. She was now fully interested, seeing as she had just begun to stir again. Windmist sighed heavily but quietly, wondering about Faithpaw. She continued on, not letting her thoughts interrupt her story.
Windmist kept her gaze on the kit but smiled at Mothstar's quick sentence. Thank you! I've been excited, waiting to hear news of the other clan's medicine cats and their apprentices. Her tail wavered back and forth, now excited and very happy. She watched as the small kits gaze shifted to her new leader. Windmist looked up at Mothstar, happy to be here. The small kit began purring. Her purr was soft yet strong. These cats, the kit began thinking, they... rescued me? My throat seems not willing to speak... Windmist looked as the kit squeaked again.
((can kits at 2 moons speak?))

((I'm not sure, but I'm not too picky about that. You may let her speak if you wish, or wait a little longer if you think that's more appropriate.))
Faithpaw took a while to compose herself, forcing herself into a more focused and stable state of mind. She turned her full attention to the story now, fearing that Windmist might be offended, maybe even thinking that Faithpaw had lost interest half-way through. This was not true of course. Even with all the distractions going on, Faithpaw still wanted to hear the rest of the tale, and so she closed off her mind and focused on nothing but the soothing sound of Windmist's familiar voice.
Mothstar smiled, now deciding to leave one of the apprentices behind, they were probably still too young to attend a gathering anyways. "Well, it's settled then. You may go to the gathering, I'll ask one of the queens later on to take care of Mistkit until you get back." Mothstar informed her medicine cat. As soon as she looked away, her eyes locked with those of the kit's, and the Clan leader knew at once that she would make a great apprentice. There was no doubt about it, she could just see it in the way that Mistkit's pink eyes shone up at her own. "Hello," Mothstar repeated, gently licking the tiny kit on the forehead. "Can you speak?"

Winsmist sighed again as Faithpaw sat down again, listening intently. She smiled, hoping she wasn't being too mean to Faithpaw. I don't want to be mean, but... The thoughts swirled, but she shook them aside and continued the story, glad that Faithpaw was listening again.
Windmist kept her eyes on the kit. The kit silently giggled lightly as the leader licked her forehead. The kit nodded at Mothstar's words. She squeaked again. But my throat won't let me... She thought to herself. She smiled. I've got my own tongue! The kit coughed softly. Windmist became worried, watching the kit closely now. Mistkit stopped and looked into Mothstar's eyes. "Yes," she said finally, her voice still a bit squeaky and higher-pitched than Mothstar's or Windmist's. Her tail flicked in frustration. It looked like a tiny twig being moved around on the ground. Windmist relaxed, now excited by Mistkit's words. She saw Mistkit's frustration and took a turn licking her on the forehead.

Faithpaw was smiling up at Mistheart now, watching the white warrior most carefully. She closed her eyes and tried to picture what Mistkit would have looked like in the story, but she couldn't imagine Mistheart as a kit. She just couldn't. It was like imagining Hazelpaw as an elder, the image was totally beyond her grasp. But she knew that it was possible. She knew that Mistheart was once a kit and that Hazelpaw would eventually retire into an elder. Time was such a tricky concept.
Mothstar nearly drew back in surprise, though she didn't know why. The kit just seemed... so young. But still she could speak. Someone must have taught her how to speak, which meant she must have actually come from somewhere. "Where did you come from?" The leader whispered, leading in close to hear the kit's soft voice. "Do you have a home?" Turning back to Windmist, she added, "I'm sorry, but where exactly did you say you found her again?"

Mistheart opened one eye and saw Faithpaw smiling at her. She smiled back, opening both eyes to look through the camp. Everything seemed calm for the time being. Good... I want to hear this story! Windmist could feel the pause before she continued, letting the two cats think about whatever it was they were thinking about.
Windmist looked at the troubled kit as Mistkit lashed her tail. She looked up as Mothstar asked her a question. "Oh, uh, I found her near Twoleg place." She paused, looking over Mistkit again, now seeing more clearly the scratches as the warm blood ran beneath them. "Oh, here, sit by her while I fetch some water. I might happen to have an extra soaked patch of moss, in case of an emergency or need." She ran toward the back of the cave to fetch the poor kit some water. She came back with a small patch. She held it over Mistkit as she licked away at it almost greedily. She licked her lips. Finally, my throat is wet again! "I... come... from..." Mistkit began in raspy breaths, her throat still hurting after each word. She coughed lightly, unable to continue. Windmist sighed.
((ooh, suspense! and 'cause i need to go check and see what i wrote in her history... if anything that'll help! 0.o;; ))

"Did you give her honey to soothe her throat?" Faithpaw asked. The slender silver apprentice couldn't resist the urge to show off her herbal knowledge. She may be in love, but she still had all the herbs memorized. "Tansy might have helped too if she was coughing." Faithpaw went on, she was almost desperate to prove to Windmist that she could still be a good medicine cat, despite everything going against her.
Mothstar sat by Mistkit and watched her with curious blue eyes as Windmist left to fetch her some water. When the kit began to cough, the leader couldn't bear to watch anymore. "Please," Mothstar interrupted the struggling kit gently, "If you can't go on, then please don't. Just try to get some rest, okay? We can always talk about this later when you're ready." Turning to Windmist, the leader added, "The Twoleg place? Could she be a Kittypet then?"

Windmist purred. "You learn well! And yes, I eventually did. I was almost there, you anxious kit!" Her purring loudened as a smile ran across her face. Her tail lashed with happiness and pride swelled. Maybe she wasn't a half-bad teacher after all!
Windmist began to stand up again. "Here, I'll go see if my stock of honey is holding up." She wondered in back. She sniffed and searched and found only the small traces of where it once sat. She came back with a sigh, her tail low. "It appears I have no more. I'll have to fetch some on the way back from the Gathering." Some medicine cat I am... She sat back by the kit, who nodded at Mothstar, saddened that she couldn't speak. Windmist turned to her leader. "She could be, but why she was thrown out..." Windmist couldn't let this subject drop. Why was she in the woods at such a young age? Why was she out of her Twoleg garden?

Faithpaw beamed proudly up at Windmist. "You're a good mentor, that's all." She added with a modest bow of her small silver head. Great. Now you're sucking up to her. Are you really that desperate? Though she didn't like to admit it, somewhere in the back of her mind, Faithpaw already knew her answer. Yes. Yes, I am. But deep down inside I know she knows I can be a good medicine cat, just like her. I just know it!
Mothstar glanced down at the mysterious little kit, her pale blue eyes bright with curiosity. "Yes, this is very strange..." She murmured more to herself than to Windmist. "To just show up here without a single trace of her past..." The leader shook her head vigorously to clear it of the fog and clouds, then continued, this time to Windmist. "But I guess we'll just have to wait for an answer, won't we?" Her eyes softened sympathetically as Mistkit blinked up at her. "Yes, we'll just have to wait."

Windmist's purr picked up. "Why thank you! You make a great apprentice for me." She did and Windmist wasn't afraid or ashamed or anything to admit it! Because it was true! And Faithpaw knew it.
So, the little kit grew up. "And we still don't know where she came from!" Windmist completed her story.

Faithpaw purred warmly at her mentor's words. When Windmist had finished the story, her jaw dropped, she didn't quite know how to feel or what to say. "What, that's it?" She demanded, twitching her ears. "What kind of an ending is that?" Faithpaw threw her head back and groaned. She couldn't help but to feel a little disappointed. She had listened patiently to the whole entire tale, and she didn't even get a decent ending. Windmist had ripped her off, leaving her hanging. "That was cheap." The pale grey apprentice muttered, though she couldn't help smiling a little. "You did that on purpose." Turning her attention to Mistheart, Faithpaw narrowed her eyes into tiny slits. How strange... She thought to herself. "Doesn't it bother you? Not knowing where you came from?" Curiosity got the best of her and she couldn't help but to ask.

Mistheart opened her eyes and lifted her head, patiently waiting for her to finish. "Yes," she admitted. Windmist turned her head toward her. "I've always wanted to know. I just hope that soon I'll learn..." She was cut off by a loud ruckus coming from the clearing. Windmist was up fast, standing at the doorway. Mistheart followed her, bounding toward the opening of the den. "Who's that?" Windmist shrugged.
